Here are some of the most frequently asked questions from prospective Northeastern online MBA students. If you have any questions that we haven't answered, please call us. An admissions advisor will be happy to answer any questions you might have about our program.
Admission, requirements, and tuition
Do you accept transfer credits or grant credits based on work experience and certifications?
We will assess transfer credits that may reduce the total number of credits required to complete the program, up to seven credits. This will be done on a case-by-case basis. While the majority of our MBA students have years of work experience and certifications, these cannot be used as a substitute for coursework.
How much does the program cost?

Do I need an undergraduate degree in business in order to apply?
You do not need an undergraduate degree in business in order to apply to the online MBA program.
How much full-time work experience do I need?
The admissions committee looks for applicants with at least five years of professional work experience.

Will my diploma specify that this is an “online” degree?
No. Your diploma will be the same as all MBA diplomas from Northeastern University.
How is the MBA program accredited?
Northeastern University is AACSB International accredited this is the highest standard of accreditation for business schools worldwide.
How long is the program?
The coursework is completed in 24 to 27 months depending on the start date. There are approximately eight courses per year. Your admissions advisor will assist you with the enrollment calendar, highlighting the unique benefits of each start date.
How many credits and courses do I need to take to graduate?
To earn your MBA, you must complete 50 semester hours of credit and achieve a 3.0 or higher grade point average. This translates to 17 courses to complete the degree.
What does an average week look like for a student enrolled in the online MBA program at Northeastern University?
This program is designed for the working professional who must balance the demands of work, home, and study. On average, most students spend 15 to 20 hours each week studying, participating in the online class discussions, and collaborating on discussion boards, as well as team projects, and preparing individual assignments.
When do I start the program? There are eight start dates available each year. An admissions advisor will be happy to explain the benefits of various start dates, and help you select the timing that works best for you.
Can I take more than one class at a time?
We have carefully structured the program to optimize your success as a business professional and online student. Students may take only one course at a time, so they are able to place their complete focus on one subject area, while building on knowledge obtained from previous courses.
Can I take time off the program?
We understand that you may face a situation where you require time off from the program. Depending on your circumstances, Northeastern University will work with you to determine the best solution on a case-by-case basis.
What is the typical class size in the online MBA?
You will take classes with a cohort of about 12 to 15 other students. The small class size allows you to develop relationships and expand your professional network.
